Herman B. LaSaine papers, 1924-1969, (bulk 1939-1941).

Collection contains the correspondence (1939-1941) of Herman B. LaSaine, and several clippings, ephemera, and miscellaneous items. Letters to LaSaine at Washington, D.C. are primarily from his girl friend, Pernetha Sandra Chisolm of Charlottesville (Va.), discussing her feelings for LaSaine and arrangements for visiting each other. Letters from Hattie R. Dingle of Orangeburg (S.C.) relate to LaSaine and Dingle family members and their friends. A letter (1939) from LaSaine's mother, Mary Alice LaSaine, discusses her son's education and future. A clipping of a picture of the "Executive Committee Palmetto State Teachers' Association" (of which Mary Alice LaSaine was a member) accompanies the letter. Several letters and postcards are from officials at Howard University (Washington, D.C.) and Meharry Medical Center (Nashville, Tenn.) concerning LaSaine's schooling. Two letters discuss debts. Other items include a health department notice (1936), a pawn shop ticket (1939), and a clipping (1940) of a cartoon. An unrelated postcard (1969) from Arthur Damm at Vienna (Austria) to Marvin Seabrook at Jerusalem (Israel) tells of his trip through Europe. Also includes a map of Finland, a booklet (1924) about the United States Constitution used at Glen Cove Public School, and the commencement program (1938) for Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State College.
